The Budget is Right
The budget that President Obama has presented is huge, but not just monetarily. Its huge, massive even, for its symbolism. It has completely taken the priorities of American governmental policy in a different direction. Instead of spending money on programs that dont work and heavily investing in war, Obama is investing in Americas future. Education, health care and solving the energy crisis seem to be Obamas biggest priorities. Spending that will partially be subsidized by ending the war in Iraq and taxing the rich. This is nothing new. Obama campaigned on this and the people overwhelming chose his ideas. But it is a little alarming to see the cost of the budget. It will add far more to the national debt than any of Bushs out of control budgets. However, there are several important details people must keep in mind: 1) Obama strategically went on record the day before the budget was announced to stress that he understands the national deficit is a problem and one that he intends to tackle by incrementally decreasing the size of his budgets each year. 2) He has included war spending in this budget in an effort to make it more transparent and understandable to the American public—this obviously is going to inflate the budget to make it seem even bigger than Bushs tricky, sneaky wartime budgets. 3) This budget represents the ideas of the American people. For 8 years, our government was hijacked after the 2000 election was stolen - yes you heard me correctly, stolen and Bush pushed bad policy after bad policy on the country, all the while wasting trillions of dollars and halting progressive issues and solutions from even being discussed. Well, the time for bad spending is over, but the time for spending is just beginning. We have neglected the basic needs of our country for far too long. Its going to take a significant amount of money to make up for 8 years of misused and mismanaged money. Is it expensive, yes. Is it scary, hell yeah its scary. If all this spending doesnt work and the economy doesnt grow well be in serious trouble and the American people will surely vote Obama and the democrats out. But if it does work, well have healthcare for all, the highest educated population and the most energy efficient country in the world. Lets just hope Obamas economic advisers are right about their predictions for the economy or we could end up digging a hole well never be able to get out of.
